Smurfit Kappa produces kraftliner from virgin fiber for use in making corrugated board. The conveyors are installed in the wood room and are therefore exposed to a high degree of wear from bark and grit.
Before Smurfit Kappa switched to Nordic Quick Systems, it used solid sprockets as well as some split sprockets. To replace two sprockets, a maintenance shutdown took at least 12 hours and needed 2-3 employees. A high lift loader or tractor had to be used to perform a maintenance.
With sprockets from Nordic Quick Systems, the maintenance shutdown takes no more than 2 hours. Neither lifting device nor fire look-out is needed, offering improved safety to employees. Sprocket maintenance is performed roughly every other year.
Switching to Nordic Quick Systems’ sprockets made it possible for Smurfit Kappa to save 10 hours per maintenance.
” I immediately understood that simply changing the sprockets’ wear parts would be considerably faster and simpler. That was why we chose Nordic Quick Systems. ”Stefan Viklund, Head of Maintenance at Smurfit Kappa
Changing sprocket supplier has delivered an increase of production time and money saved.
